History of the institution. The history of the creation of the FSBI "National Medical Research Center of Oncology. N.N. Blokhin ”of the Ministry of Health of Russia is rooted in the era of intensive development of domestic medical science in the post-war years. On October 22, 1951, by a decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the Institute of Experimental Pathology and Cancer Therapy, Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR, was established, the successor of which is the Oncology Center.
In 1952 the institute was headed by Nikolai Nikolaevich Blokhin. In the shortest possible time, he managed to bring together the best representatives of science, practical doctors, surgeons, radiologists, radiologists, therapists and healthcare organizers, talented youth and create a leading scientific and practical school in the country, which has become one of the most respected in the world. Since 1993, the Oncology Center has been named after its founder and first director.
In 1981, when oncologists were faced with the task of understanding the mechanisms of molecular genetic and immunological processes. The Institute is becoming a huge experimental platform where the most daring ideas of oncologists are being implemented - new directions of combination therapy were born, the radiation direction was improved and equipped with new equipment, the variety of types of surgical care increased, the possibilities of performing organ-preserving operations appeared, neurooncology developed, and bone marrow transplantation became in demand.
Since 1988, Nikolai Nikolaevich Trapeznikov, an academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, professor, has become the director of the VONTS of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. Thanks to the scientific ideas of Academician Trapeznikov and his organizational talent, the Onco Center makes a real breakthrough in various areas of oncological science and loudly declares itself at the international level. Nikolai Nikolaevich heads the Oncology Center until his death in 2001.
Since 2001 FSBI NMITs of Oncology named after N.N. Blokhin ”of the Ministry of Health of Russia was headed by an outstanding domestic surgeon-oncologist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, chief oncologist of Russia Mikhail Ivanovich Davydov. Since November 2017, acting director of the «FSBI NMITs of Oncology named after N.N. Blokhin» of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Ivan Sokratovich Stilidi was appointed. In August 2018, he was appointed Chief Freelance Oncologist of the Ministry of Health of Russia in the North-West, South, Ural, Siberian, Far Eastern Federal Districts. Since November 2018, by order of the Minister of Health of Russia, Ivan Stilidi has taken over as director of the Oncology Center. In November 2019, he was elected an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Educational programs. In accordance with the license for the implementation of educational activities, series 90L01 No. 0009817, registration No. 2720, issued on February 22, 2018 by the N.N. Blokhin ”of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the basis of 273-ФЗ dated December 29, 2012, training is carried out in the higher education system (postgraduate studies, residency) and in the system of additional professional education.
