History in brieaf. The beginning of heart surgery in the Amur region is associated with the name of Yaroslav Petrovich Kulik - the heart surgeon, scientist, inventor and a talented teacher. The results of his activities in the Far East for 21 years became known not only in the Soviet Union, but also in many countries.

Y.P. Kulik opened the first experimental operating room in Blagoveshchensk, and for the first time introduced operations for congenital and acquired heart defects into the practice of the Amur healthcare due to his extensive experience in the surgical treatment of cardiovascular diseases, outstanding leadership qualities and an innovative approach to solving clinical problems.

The group organized by the scientist was engaged in the development of a new method of AC with natural blood oxygenation. At the same time, the scientists worked over the development of their own AC device. In 1969, in the Amur region the first operation with AC was performed in a patient with an interatrial septum defect.

In 1975, according to the decision of the USSR Council of Ministers for Science and Technology, Y. P. Kulik headed the AC Problem Laboratory with a 60 – bed Clinic established in Blagoveshchensk (now - the Heart Surgery Clinic of the Amur State Medical Academy of the Ministry of Health of Russia), the subject of its scientific research was included in the plan of cooperation with US scientists.
